23 Dec 2025 - TPE Day 3: Taipei Main Station

Taipei Main Station was our ending stop over the past 3 days because our accommodation was just few minutes' walk away from it. More than just a transport hub, it is a crossroads of history, daily life, commerce, and movement. Seen from the outside, Taipei Main Station presents a formal and symmetrical façade that immediately sets it apart from the surrounding city blocks. At night, the exterior lighting softened the building’s sharp lines, giving it a dignified presence that contrasts with the brighter commercial streets nearby.
Around Taipei Main Station, the sight of people sleeping in public spaces can be striking, and it’s the result of a mix of social, economic, and practical factors, rather than a single cause.
Entering Taipei Main Station is like stepping into a different layer of Taipei. The interior is vast, multi-level, and perpetually busy. At the main concourse, there were large digital boards displaying train schedules.
Rather than a single grand hall, the station unfolds vertically and horizontally, connecting Taiwan Railways (TRA), High Speed Rail (HSR), Taipei Metro (MRT), Airport MRT, Bus terminals and underground malls. It connects cities, neighbourhoods, and lives. It’s where journeys begin and end.
