As mentioned in one of my earlier posts, there was a random knife incident happened at this junction in front of Zhongshan station few days ago that left several people dead. After the incident, security had stepped up in the area where police could be seen at every corner.
We saw a number of locals and visitors came and paid tribute at the street outside Eslite Spectrum Xinyi, one of Taipei’s major shopping and cultural complexes. The location outside Eslite Spectrum is notable because it’s a central, pedestrian-friendly area, and many of the attack’s victims were commuting through or near this part of Xinyi District. The memorial became a space for collective mourning, bringing strangers together to reflect on the incident and the fragility of daily life.
We then continued our walk at the underground shopping street to explore the various stores.
